Wyandottes
Pros: Very striking colour, docile, friendly birds.
Cons: Can be prone to broodiness
Eggs: Light Brown
Wyandottes were developed in America and first reported in the 19th Century. They are decent sized birds with placid, friendly natures. Wyandottes will usually mix well with other breeds of chicken. They are a dual purpose bird which was originally bred to provide both eggs and meat.
The silver laced Wyandotte was the initial variety. There are now many variants of colour and pattern in the breed but we currently only keep silver pencilled and white.
Silver pencilled Wyandottes are very striking and attractive birds. Wyandottes have a rose comb.
Wyandottes are good layers of light brown eggs and usually make reliable broodies and mothers.
