A true bantam, Pekin bantams are feather legged, short, broad and fluffy looking. Pekins were believed to have been stolen from the Emporer of China in Peking around 1860. Another story states they were imported from China around 1830-1840 and were presented to Queen Victoria and crossed with other breeds until they became the Pekin bantams that are so popular today.

Group Mixed PekinsDue to their popularity it is possible to find Pekin Bantams in a myriad of colours but we currently keep gold partridge pekins. We find them very friendly, surprisingly hardy and easy to keep.

Pekins are great for families with children as they are generally easy to handle as they are small and generally calm. They make excellent broodies and fantastic mothers. They lay small, creamy coloured eggs. pekin chick day old
